 Short hair don’t care!

That’s my new motto! Yesterday I went in for a routine cut and decided to make a spontaneous decision to go short. Really short (at least for me!). I’m still trying to get used to the change, but sometimes change is good!

Rise and Shine

Long time no see! First off, I’d like to apologize for my absence over here on the blog. I feel incredibly guilty any day I don’t get a post up. So you can only imagine how I felt about a whole week of being MIA. Major anxiety. This morning I was doing some thinking and decided I should probably explain- with a job that requires travel, as well as balancing a long-distance relationship, I can’t always find the time to do everything I want. Finding the perfect balance between work, play, and the blog is a constant battle that I’m still trying to figure out. I know one day, when things settle down, I will find the right recipe to make it all work. But for now, I am doing my best!

That all being said, you definitely have to put things in perspective and really step back and focus on what’s important. When a company like the Akola Project reaches out and tells you about their amazing story, you are quickly brought back to reality. If you haven’t heard of the Akola Project, they are a global accessory brand that is made by and fully benefits marginalized woman. Their story started in Uganda and has now made its way back to our very own Dallas, TX. Brittany, the founder of the Akola Project (also an SMU alum!), is starting local group here in Dallas that will train and employ sexually trafficked women to help with the finishing touches on their products made in Uganda.

I’ll be honest, I had seen their necklaces before and thought they were pretty. Now that I know the meaning behind them, they are even more beautiful! Make sure you check out the Akola Project and their amazing necklaces! And if you’re feeling generous, donate to their cause here!

Good thing J.Crew is now offering 30% all swimwear with the code HISUMMER. Perfect timing for 4th of July!

So, maybe I lied a little in my last outfit post. I know I said I love color in the summer, but here I am right back to my classic black. How could I say no to this easy silhouette and fun detailing?

I know that of all people, I am the first to choose a little black dress over anything else. But when it’s summer and the sun is out, I want color. Lots of color. You may remember from this post that I am a huge fan of embroidery. I love the intricate detail it can add to the most simple of pieces. Plus, it can easily double to add that pop of color I’m craving these days.

Darling Decor

Lately I’ve been noticing a ton of home accents that I’m just dying to incorporate into my home. Even though it’s been a couple of months since my move and I’m definitely feeling settled, there’s always room for a little update here and there ; ) These cactus prints need to be mine! How cute are they? Not to mention these covered books - they’re the perfect filler for my bookshelves!

Happy Friday! Have a great weekend! xx

Travel Essential

Black Summer Wedges

Black Ellie Kai Dress

Black Dress Ellie KaiDress: Ellie Kai c/o Wedges: Jimmy Choo Earrings: Kendra Scott

This Ellie Kai dress could not have arrived on my doorstep at a better time. Between work and play, I have a lot of travel coming up. I’ve been a big stickler on only packing in a carry-on recently, so making sure I pack light is imperative. This dress really is the ideal travel dress. The fabric stays wrinkle free and it can be dressed up or down –  two birds, one stone.

Father’s Day Gifts

Father’s Day is just around the corner (next Sunday to be exact) and if you’re like me, you’re trying to find the perfect gift for the man who has everything. Personally, I know my father always loves getting new clothes (like father, like daughter). If you’re running out of ideas, I would suggest gifting the perfect pair of light jeans for summer. If there is one thing for sure, you know he will get a lot of use out of them! Nordstrom has a great selection of denim for every size and shape, so if you need some help check out this helpful guide!

Happy Friday! xx
