I have to admit that the rehearsal dinner is one of my favorite parts of a wedding weekend. I love how it’s an intimate start to a busy but fun weekend ahead. For me, the speeches are the very best part. I love learning about the bride and groom from those who know them the closest. It never fails that you’ll end up laughing and crying all within the same five minutes.
Don’t get me wrong, to say I was excited about our wedding day was an understatement. But I knew our rehearsal dinner was going to be a night that would be beautiful and special in it’s own way just like the next.
It was a no brainer when it came to choosing the location. The Apiary is an event space near downtown Lexington that feels like a secret garden you dreamt of finding as a child. Behind a big brick wall you find some of the most beautifully manicured gardens, an intimate indoor cocktail lounge that will make you feel right at home and a breathtaking dining room complete with 18 foot-tall windows. If we would have left it completely alone, it would have been a stunning backdrop for the evening. But instead, we let our wedding planner, Lauren Chitwood, work her magic and transform the space into a rehearsal dinner that dreams are made of.
When planning the feel for the evening we wanted to combine Kentucky charm with Ben’s Texas roots. Since it was the start of spring, we combined blush and gold accents with natural textures to make it the perfect balance between feminine and masculine. The garden was covered in candles placed in geometric terrariums giving off a romantic vibe. The night wouldn’t have been complete without a bluegrass band to welcome guests to the weekend and to Kentucky!
